The way people listen to music has changed drastically over the last 10 years. Cassettes turned into Compacts Discs, and Compact Discs have turned into MP3s and ITunes. People used to spend their time making mixes on tapes and CDs, and now it’s as simple as changing your preprogrammed playlist according to your mood. To keep up with these changes in the way that people listen to music, radio has evolved as well. From turning the dial, to programming the digital scan to now listening to satellite internet radio stations.
Internet radio is a free and easy way for people to have access to their favorite music whenever they want. Many of them work like broadcast radio in that they play a stream of non-stop audio that cannot be replayed. This is how these internet radio stations avoid asking users to pay. By maintaining a steady stream on the web, they are playing the music and not giving it away for "consumption". Many of these stations have varied amounts of advertisements interspersed from sponsors to keep the station running and to keep it free.
